Faithful service seems unproductive at times.

The reason we serve Christ is because it is our duty to do so (Luke 17.10).  Our Lord and Master is Jesus Christ, who owns us, runs our lives, and whose best interest is always of first importance.

Faithful service is not about us.  Faithful service is all about Him and the best interest of His kingdom.  This truth is foundational to discipleship.

Jesus says "Anyone who does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be my disciple".  The challenge facing Christians is still the same as in the days when Jesus was on earth.  His heavenly calling is for us to be His disciples.

The encouragement is though that as we set our on this adventure He goes before us and is with us in all that we do.  "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm.  Let nothing move you.  Always give yourselves fully to the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain". 1 Corinthians 15.58.
